Andrew Norman Wilson
A few years after learning to walk, I developed a habit of avoiding breaks of color and material in the surfaces I crossed. People would tell me I had a strange gait, but could never explain or demonstrate how because of my variation. I would keep to the solid red sections of an oriental rug, tip toe into the middle of square linoleum tiles, and shuffle sideways on the outer edges of my sandals across wooden decks. These days, at sea, my feet just pierce an endless surface, and breaks are no longer a matter of concern.
