Patrick Berran
Berran creates energetic, multifaceted and lyrical paintings on panel through a layered process of transfers, silk screens and painting. Complex compositions arise from this intricate intersection and overlay of forms, producing cohesive constructions that suggest infinite layers beneath.
The works on view stem from an artist book filled with plein air watercolors inspired by the colors and forms of nature. Berran repeatedly photocopies these pages, degrading and breaking them down to the point of dense static. These unexpected patterns become the screens that are used to complicate the surfaces of subtle, colorful abstractions. The impression of these works is one of luminous vibration, as if the surface were permeated with colors shining from within.
Patrick Berran lives and works in New York and received his MFA from Hunter College. Solo exhibitions include White Columns, NY; South First Gallery, Brooklyn and Thomas Robertello Gallery, Chicago. Berran’s work has been featured in exhibitions at Jack Hanley Gallery, NY; Gavin Brown Enterprise, NY iMOCA, Indianapolis, IN.
Exhibition is on view starting October 25.
